Bob Kauflin "the leader" summary

  In the first section of the book, Worship Matters by Bob Kauflin, it says that being a worship leader can sometimes feel like a burden and a waste of time. For example, we can feel like we aren’t changing anyone’s lives and it can get mundane fairly quickly. But, Kauflin says that we have to keep in mind that we do this for God, not for ourselves. Chapter two talks about my heart: what do I love. It says that people in our modern society can get so caught up with idols, but we have to realize that God should be the only one we praise. In chapter three, my mind: what do i believe, it says that there is no point in believing in a God, if you don’t know who he is. For example,  he gives the readers an analogy that if him and us (the readers) ran into each other in Starbucks and we started praising Kauflin’s son and had the wrong image of him, there would be no point in talking highly of him like that him like that if it were’t the right words. Chapter four is our hands: what do we practice. Kauflin says that we have to have skill, our gifted talents from God, and use it for His glory. Having a heart for the Lord is important, but having skill for your instrument is important as well because it could hinder on the worshiping time of others if it doesn’t sound very good. Kauflin gives us 5 things to remember about skill: 1. Skill is a gift from God, for His glory, 2. Skill must be developed 3.Skill doesn’t make worship more acceptable before God, 4. Skill should be evaluated by others, and 5. Skill is not a end itself. The last chapter (chapter 5) from the section of “the leader” is, my life: what do i model. This chapter states that we not only have to be an example for others on stage but also off stage as well. We need to model God in our speech, conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.

        All worship team leaders can personally apply these concepts, including me. I need to keep all of the things Kauflin said in mind, so that I can spread it to others while leading worship. For example, sometimes you can get all caught up in everything around you, that you forget who you are doing all of this for. I should always remember that worship is for God and not for someone else or myself.

    I resonate with what you pointed about how sometimes leading worship can begin to feel mundane when we lead worship often. Like Kauflin said though, God will take care of the results. Our focus should be on truly worshipping God with everything we've got.

    Hi Zoé, I really liked how when you describe the book, you go into detail for each chapter instead of just giving a brief overall summary for each one. I'll make sure to keep that in mind now when we write the next summary. I also like your personal reflection, it helps us all remember that God is first, not us.     It's hard to remember that we're doing this for God sometimes. As musicians we get caught up in producing good music and the audience. But those are material things that don't impact us like God does. Nice personal application dude, we can remind each other of the true purpose of our music and get through it together!! :))

Bob Kauflin "so what does a worship leader do" summary and reflection

In the beginning of Bob Kauflin's Worhsip Matters he explains that worship hasn't been around for long, but we have now built it in our routine of practice. He says that one of the bases of the church is how worship music dominates it's structure and thinking and that its hard to imagine a church without worship time. Later on in the chapter, he says that the term "worship leader" can often be misunderstood. For example, it can make us think that we have to have worship leaders, or that  worship is just singing. He ends with saying that worship leaders have the ability to impact and teach God's people. I think that being a worship leader is a great privilege because it gives us the opportunity to encourage others and help them give glory to him. Sometimes, we can take it for granted, and forget who we are really doing it for. I like how Kauflin explained that the term "worship leader" can be misunderstood because I had never thought of that before...
